Taiwan Post-Secondary Workshop
The
Taiwan Post-Secondary Workshop is the first time to be held by
Oh
America / Oh Canada Education Consulting Center
in Taipei.
The first event took place in Far
Eastern Plaza Hotel in Taipei on
October 19, 2006. There are 24 American/ Canadian schools and 35
Taiwanese schools attended this event.
The
Taiwan Post-Secondary Workshop is designed to bring together overseas
and Taiwanese schools for the purpose of networking and ultimately to
develop opportunities for productive and substantive cooperation and
exchange.
Seminars
In
order to provide a range of useful information to the public, the Oh
Canada / Oh America Centers invited speakers to host 26 seminars
during the four-day CEE/AEE. Presentation topics ranged from how to
apply for Canadian visas, to tips on living, studying, and working in
North America. Speakers included a Representative of ETS, Canadian
Trade Office in Taipei, Specialists the Senior Counselors from Oh
Canada and Oh America.
Washington State
and Nova Scotia Pavilions
Two special pavilions were set up at the
fall event to spotlight 13 Washington state schools and seven
schools from Nova Scotia. A representative from the Washington
State government, Ms Julie Wilkerson was on hand to cut the opening
ribbon for the event in Taipei. Throughout all four days of the
event a special seminar series was run to promote the schools from
these two delegations.

Conclusions and Recommendations
The
spring AEE/CEE was one of the most successful events hosted by Oh
Canada and Oh America to date. However, to address the needs and
concerns of participating schools, the following areas will be worked
on to provide better results:
-
Wireless internet service will be set up in the venues, and
electrical outlets will be provided on demand.
-
Further improvements will be made to the Kaohsiung venue.
-
Additional food options will be provided.
-
Further work to prepare the translators will be done.
-
A
participant registration system will be implimented to streamline
the multiple questionnaires and request for information forms.
-
Printing services for school materials will be offered to allow
schools to avoid costly shiping costs and the risk of lost
shipments.
-
An
option to allow University/College extension programs to be placed
in a section seperate from the universities seeking degree granting
students will be offered.
-
New
marketing strategies to attract more potential high school
participants will be started.
Participant Comments
-
These
fairs always run smoothly, meet my expectations. Thanks for your
effort.
-
I
learned more about their needs and how to best meet them. Locations of
booths great! I was surprised so many students in Kaohsiung, Great!
-
The
events are well organized, good management and clear expectations.
Wonderful and helpful local translators.
-
I have
not been to Taiwan before so I had no expectations. I thought KBEC had
a little to be desired. Oh America staff were great !
-
The
best fair prep I have seen. Very friendly and responsive staff, well
done Brian & Staff!
-
We were
able to meet some potential students.
-
I was
really pleased this year with all the fairs. The Oh Canada / Oh
America staff are great, everyone was so helpful, knowledgeable and
fun. Keep up the great work.
-
It
would be helpful if the translators understood a bit more about the
education system in the states. Perhaps just a vocabulary list e.g.
undergraduate, graduate, M.A., B.A.
-
I was
as busy as I expected to be.
-
Taipei
was great, Taichung was good but Kaohsiung was a little quiet.
